Music Monday ~ Badiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds

Three Lions '96

In celebration of England qualifying for the 2014 Football World Cup in Brazil, today's Music Monday features the official single which was released in 1996 when England hosted the EUFA Football Tournament. Performed by British comedians David Badiel & Frank Skinner who teamed up with British rock group The Lightning Seeds, the released the single "Three Lions". The single reached number 1 in the UK singles chart. The single has been released and features in the UK singles chart every time England have qualified for a major football tournament.

Three Lions '98

The single was again released in 1998 when England qualified for the World Cup football tournament which was held in France. Again, the single reached number 1 in the UK chart, but was the unofficial single for the campaign (the original being "(How Does If Feel To Be) On Top Of The World", which was released as England United). Most of the lyrics were changed following England's exit in the 1996 tournament, but the crowd chanting is still included at the beginning & the chorus hasn't changed.

  2. It amazes me how a great song can be number one in the UK yet never make it to the states.

  6. Not being a sports household I know nothing about any sort of sports except what's common knowledge especially soccer. I got to hear the first tune, but the second isn't playing in my country. :( Thanks for rockin' with us.
